Jim Taylour – Head of Ergonomics, Orangebox
Jim Taylour trained as a furniture designer initially and worked for various office furniture manufacturers including Gordon Russell and the Steelcase Strafor group as an industrial design engineer. His time at Giroflex developing office seating got him interested in human centred design.
After completing an MSc in Ergonomics and Workplace Design in the mid 90's and studying the effects of alternative seating in schools, Jim worked as an Ergonomist at Back In Action, a specialist equipment provider for all age groups to aid better posture, based at the British School of Osteopathy in London.
By the late 90's, Jim returned to Giroflex to run the R and D team before setting up Active Ergonomics, a specialist unit assisting corporate clients with alternative seating and wellbeing advice to reduce occupational health issues.
As head off Workplace Wellbeing, Jim collaborates with both internal and external designers, carries out research to support organisational wellbeing and assists with European harmonisation on dimensional standards for office chairs and school furniture. He is also co-founder and chair of a special interest group on children's ergonomics with the IEHF (Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors) and is a professional member and occasional researcher for the charity Back Care.
